DISCOURSE / IDEAS IN CONVERSATION
A space for questions, perspectives and possibilities.
Discourse will bring together considered commentary, critical reflections, interesting work by others and proposals that can be scrutinised, discussed and revised.
Not every piece needs to end with an answer.
A contribution can clarify, challenge, spotlight, compare or propose. The important question is what the reader can understand more clearly afterwards.
-
Considered interpretations of social, institutional and policy questions, with evidence and uncertainty distinguished.
-
Questions and tensions that invite closer consideration without requiring a predetermined conclusion.
-
Research, practice, initiatives or perspectives developed by others, with clear acknowledgement of their work.
-
Comparisons across regions, countries, disciplines and public systems, considering what can realistically transfer.
-
Developed recommendations for discussion, with assumptions, alternatives and outstanding questions made visible.
-
A commitment to returning to earlier contributions as new evidence, experience or arguments emerge.
Articles will distinguish evidence from interpretation, link to relevant sources, identify the status of proposals and acknowledge the work of others.
Disagreement is welcome when it helps clarify what is at stake. Positions can be held confidently while remaining open to meaningful scrutiny.
Ideas are stronger when they can be examined.
